The Attic (a name which commemorates our first physical location) is, first and foremost, a site for the research students of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester: a virtual community which aims to include all students, be they campus-based and full-time, or distance-learning and overseas. But we welcome contributions from students of museum studies - and allied subject areas - from outside the School and from around the world. Here you will find a lot of serious stuff, like exhibition and research seminar reviews, conference alerts and calls for papers, but there's also some 'fluff'; the things that inspire, distract and keep us going. After all, while we may be dead serious academic types, we're human too.

Christa Lohman: exhibit at the Center on Halsted, Chicago, IL

Christa Lohman, graduate of the Department of Museum Studies and The Attic's sometime North American correspondent, has a forthcoming photography exhibition at the Center on Halsted, Chicago, IL.

If you can make it, why not go and support one of our distinguished alumni.

If you can't get down there, Christa has created a facebook event page with links.

Love = Love: Protesting Proposition 8
by Christa Lohman

Opening Reception Friday, June 5
6:30pm - 9:30pm

3rd Floor Gallery: Christa Lohman; Love = Love: Protesting Proposition 8, a photo essay from the post-Prop 8, November 15, 2008 political action in Chicago

Christa explains her motivation for the exhibit;
"California's Proposition 8 was a step backward in the fight for equal marriage rights. This photo essay depicting scenes from the November 15, 2008 protest rally in downtown Chicago hopes to inspire its viewers to take action within their communities to secure equal rights for all citizens."
