The Attic (a name which commemorates our first physical location) is, first and foremost, a site for the research students of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester: a virtual community which aims to include all students, be they campus-based and full-time, or distance-learning and overseas. But we welcome contributions from students of museum studies - and allied subject areas - from outside the School and from around the world. Here you will find a lot of serious stuff, like exhibition and research seminar reviews, conference alerts and calls for papers, but there's also some 'fluff'; the things that inspire, distract and keep us going. After all, while we may be dead serious academic types, we're human too.

Conference Alert/CFP: Museology – Museums Studies in the XXI century (St. Petersburgh/RU, 19-21 May 2010)

Museology – Museums Studies in the XXI century: issues of studies and teaching
Saint-Petersburg, 19 – 21 May 2010

The Chair of Museology of Saint-Petersburg State University and the UNESCO chair of museology and world heritage of Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) invites you to take part in the second international academic conference "Museology – Museums Studies in the XXI century: issues of studies and teaching".

Possible themes may include:
- History of museums;
- Theory of museums;
- Museum education: theory, history, practice;
- Museology as applied discipline.

The conference will take place in Saint-Petersburg, 19 – 21 May 2010. Deadline for application (which should include name, degree, position, place of work, theme of paper, phone number) is 25 January 2010. Deadline for paper submission is 1 May 2010. The length of the paper should not exceed the limit of 30 000 signs (with space characters), while the abstract the 1 000 signs (with space characters). Conference fee (including accommodation in double room of University Hotel) is 150 euro.
