The Attic (a name which commemorates our first physical location) is, first and foremost, a site for the research students of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester: a virtual community which aims to include all students, be they campus-based and full-time, or distance-learning and overseas. But we welcome contributions from students of museum studies - and allied subject areas - from outside the School and from around the world. Here you will find a lot of serious stuff, like exhibition and research seminar reviews, conference alerts and calls for papers, but there's also some 'fluff'; the things that inspire, distract and keep us going. After all, while we may be dead serious academic types, we're human too.

Every wondered about ghost signs?

And, in particular, my obsession with them? Well, take a look at Sam Robert's online lecture based on one he gave at Middlesex University in the past week.

You might even spot a few familiar images!*

*My examiners have said that I need to get better at blowing my own trumpet. ;)

Just discovered your blog through a peek at my analytics stats, a thoroughly good find! Thanks for plugging the lecture, I have to confess that I found it very difficult to put it up there because listening back I hear all the 'ums' and 'ers' and wish there were things I had said which I didn't. Still, I hope you all find it a useful resource, keep in touch with the project via the new website.

Thanks Sam - I am endeavouring to spread the joy of ghost signs amongst the unbelievers. Keep up the good work!
