The Attic (a name which commemorates our first physical location) is, first and foremost, a site for the research students of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester: a virtual community which aims to include all students, be they campus-based and full-time, or distance-learning and overseas. But we welcome contributions from students of museum studies - and allied subject areas - from outside the School and from around the world. Here you will find a lot of serious stuff, like exhibition and research seminar reviews, conference alerts and calls for papers, but there's also some 'fluff'; the things that inspire, distract and keep us going. After all, while we may be dead serious academic types, we're human too.

The British Museum on the box

A new 10-part BBC2 series, 'The Museum', about the daily workings of the British Museum is being televised from Thursday, 10th May at 19:30. Starts with an insight into the Conservation Department. Sounds goods. For more details, click here.

So they are bucking the trend and starting with a really obscure part of the museum... er not quite! Still its good to see the museum on TV, I wonder if it will be as riveting as Airport? Imagine the following in sombre voiceover; "Monday morning and head curator Clinton Boothe-Smythe has a crisis. Last night a small and determined squad of as yet unidentified beetles have broken into one of the cases and run amok..." :)
