This annual symposium provides emerging scholars graduate students from a variety of academic disciplines -- with a venue for interdisciplinary dialogue centering on material culture. By freeing scholars from chronological and topical restraints, we encourage discussion across perceived boundaries of discipline, medium, and methodology. This symposium is organized and run by graduate students at the University of Delaware.
This event, now in its fifth year, brings together scholars from fields including History, Anthropology, Art History, English, and American studies. The day is organized around three panels of three papers each, with comments by established scholars Charles Hummel (Winterthur Museum), David Brody (Parsons School of Design), and Lynn Meskell (Stanford
University). The day will end with a keynote address by Susan Strasser,
historian of American consumer culture. We invite emerging and established scholars, museum professionals, and interested members of the public to join us for an exciting day of new scholarship.
The symposium and special tours are free. We encourage you to pre-register online up until April 10th. On-site registration will also be available at the symposium. We require pre-registration for all special tours.
